A television show based on Tobe Hooper’s classic horror movie Poltergeist is currently in development at Amazon’s MGM Studios.
Although no director or stars are in place, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will executive produce for Amblin Television. Variety
After Poltergeist: The Legacy in the late ’90s, this is the first new Poltergeist project since a lukewarm reboot movie in 2015.
The 1982 horror movie Poltergeist was written by Steven Spielberg. He plays Steve Freeling, who lives in Southern California with his wife, Diane, (JoBeth Williams), and his three children, Dana (Dominique Dunne), Robbie (Oliver Robins), and Carol Anne (Heather O’Rourke), where he sells houses for the developer.

After a few odd events, such as broken dishes and furniture moving by itself, things take a sour turn, and Carol Anne is abducted by ghosts. As Steve realizes something evil haunts his house, he sends a team led by Dr. Lesh (Beatrice Straight) to investigate, hoping to retrieve Carol Anne.
The success of the Amblin-backed horror saw it rake in around $121 million worldwide against a reported budget of under $11 million. Heather O’Rourke and Zelda Rubenstein returned for two sequels. Amazon hopes its popularity will hook fans in for the show, which will undoubtedly air on Prime Video.
