Tim Allen is officially returning as Buzz Lightyear in Pixar’s Toy Story 5. The actor recently shared insights about the upcoming film, describing the story as “very, very clever” and praising Pixar’s creative approach.
A New Chapter for Buzz and the Gang
Speaking to Collider, Allen revealed the team behind Toy Story 5 wouldn’t have moved forward with the sequel without a strong script:
“Had they not come up with a brilliant script, they wouldn’t have done it and they wouldn’t have called me and Tom [Hanks]. It’s really clever.”
The new installment introduces a modern twist: “Toy meets Tech.” Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang face a new challenge as advanced technology threatens their playtime. The fresh storyline blends humor and heart with innovative ideas, continuing the franchise’s tradition of excellence.
Reflecting on the Franchise
Allen also spoke about his favorite films in the series, admitting that while Toy Story 1 holds a special place in his heart, Toy Story 3 is another standout:
“There’s nothing like Toy Story 1… that was such an amazing experience. It’s hard to say. I’d probably give it to Toy Story 3.”
This sequel marks Allen’s return to the role after Chris Evans voiced a different version of Buzz Lightyear in the 2022 spin-off, Lightyear. Allen clarified that the spin-off told a separate story disconnected from the original character:
“This is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies.”
