A sequel to 2022’s Samaritan is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios with Sylvester Stallone set to return, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Prior to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, Stallone reached a deal to return as a producer as well as to star in the sequel.
Bragi F. Schut, who wrote the first film, will also write the sequel. It is not known yet whether Julius Avery will return to direct.
According to THR, the film was the number-one film on Prime Video for three consecutive weeks following its release as a Prime Video exclusive in 2022.
What is the story about Samaritan?
Thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary (Javon “Wanna” Walton) suspects that his mysterious and reclusive neighbor Mr. Smith (Sylvester Stallone) is actually a legend hiding in plain sight. Twenty-five years ago, Granite City’s super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, was reported dead after a fiery warehouse battle with his rival, Nemesis.
Most believe Samaritan perished in the fire, but some in the city, like Sam, have hope that he is still alive. With crime on the rise and the city on the brink of chaos, Sam makes it his mission to coax his neighbor out of hiding to save the city from ruin.
