Paterson Joseph has been cast in the British drama film Bet Your Bottom Dollar. It follows announcements that Joseph is set to star in the 2023 fantasy musical film Wonka, alongside Timothée Chalamet in the titular role.
As well as having a range of film credits to his name – including opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Danny Boyle’s The Beach (2000) – Joseph has an extensive list of television credits, including as Alan Johnson in the hit UK Channel 4 series Peep Show. More recently he has appeared as Home Secretary Kamal Hadley in the BBC’s Noughts + Crosses, and Mosquito Coast, which is available on Apple TV+.
Bet Your Bottom Dollar follows a young British man, ‘Jack’, as he travels in Southern France. As a result of his severe gambling addiction, he finds himself indebted to the French betting firm Parier24. The journey of self-discovery that he embarks on proves to be life-changing.
Paterson, who recently released his debut novel The Secret Diaries of Charles Ignatius Sancho, portray’s ‘Victor’, an employee at Parier24.
Production began in June this year, with César Award-nominated Marc Duret (The Big Blue, La Haine, Outlander) also attached to star. Duret portrays ‘Francois’ – a colleague of Paterson’s ‘Victor’ at the French betting firm.
New talent Cameron Ashplant (Marooned Awakening, The Last Bus) has been cast in the lead role as Jack.
The film is the narrative debut of documentary filmmaker Brandon Ashplant, and produced by Golden Goat Films with support from Guernsey Arts. It is slated for release in 2023.
