SHUDDER, the premium streaming service for horror, thrillers and the supernatural, is thrilled to announce that Madeleine Sims-Fewer and Dusty Mancinelli’s gripping and unforgettable psychological revenge thriller VIOLATION will be released exclusively on SHUDDER from 25 March 2021.
The bold and unflinching thriller screened to critical and audience acclaim as an official selection of the 2021 Sundance Film Festival after having its world premiere at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival where Sims-Fewer was a recipient of the TIFF Rising Star Award. The film has recently been selected to play SXSW Film Festival 2021.
VIOLATION is a turbulent feminist revenge fable that explores the idea of trauma within families and untangles a sticky web of resentment as a troubled woman on the edge of divorce embarks on a vicious crusade when her sister and brother-in-law betray her trust. Highly focused on a naturalistic performance style and visual aesthetic, directors Madeleine Sims-Fewer and Dusty Mancinelli’s work explores gender politics, selfishness, and abuse of power, and is cinema at its most provocative.
With her marriage about to implode, Miriam (Madeleine Sims-Fewer) returns to her hometown to seek solace in the comfort of her younger sister and brother-in-law. But one evening a tiny slip in judgement leads to a catastrophic betrayal, leaving Miriam shocked, reeling, and furious.
Believing her only recourse is to exact revenge Miriam takes extreme action, but the price of retribution is high, and she is not prepared for the toll it takes as she begins to emotionally and psychologically unravel.
Featuring a startling, raw central performance from Madeleine Sims-Fewer, VIOLATION is a film which upends and confounds film audiences and questions and confronts gender narratives by reconfiguring the rape-revenge genre into something wholly new and bold.
VIOLATION is exclusively released on SHUDDER on 25 March 2021
